VULTURES NEED OUR HELP. They are the most imperiled group of birds in the world, with 70% of species listed as threatened, endangered, or critically endangered. Some African Vulture populations have declined by 95% in the last 30 years, and today 7 of Africa’s 11 species are listed as endangered or critically endangered.
The African Vulture SAFE Program is working to address the main threats to vultures in Africa: poisoning, poaching, lack of food availability, and collisions with infrastructure. Funds from this campaign will be used to support the African Vultures SAFE program partners in Botswana (Denver Zoo), Tanzania (North Carolina Zoo), South Africa (VulPro), and Kenya (The Peregrine Fund).
SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) is a collaboration conservation program coordinated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and led by the North Carolina Zoo.
